We just had a big moment at our house and I wanted to share it…..our almost 3 year old son has just given up his binky! You parents out there who have binky children, you'll understand what a huge milestone this is. We've been gradually taking the binkies away over the last couple of months so he was down to one last binky for about 3 weeks. We kept telling him once that binky was lost, he would't get another. We waited and waited…but he was very careful not to lose that binky! Finally, two nights ago, he lost it. We searched the house for 30 minutes but it was nowhere to be found. My heart was filled with excitement that our binky intervention was about to begin, but also tempered with fear that we'd have a fight on our hands. Well, we explained that he had to go to bed without it and put him to bed as usual. He cried for a while, but eventually fell asleep. We had done it!! He's been asking for it for the last two days, but less and less as time goes on. Last night he didn't even ask for it before he went to bed. So for all you parents out there afraid to take those binkies once and for all…I'm here to say we did it, we survived, and it really wasn't at all as bad as I thought it would be. So hopefully this will inspire some of you to take that next step and throw away those binkies!! )
We are just starting to wean our 2 year old from her binky. So far, we've limited it to nightime and she seems to do pretty well with that. Hopefully we can work towards the disappearing act soon!
